No & Low Alcohol FAQs

Yes and no. Alcohol-free beer can (legally) be called that as long as it doesn’t contain more than 0.5% alcohol but you can find completely alcohol-free beers as well as those with up to 0.5% ABV.

There’s a couple of different ways that alcohol-free beer is made – one is by removing the alcohol after the beer is brewed, the other is by using a clever strain of yeast that doesn’t produce alcohol during fermentation. We use yeast that fully ferments without producing alcohol – way less fiddly than removing the alcohol later.

You’d have to drink an unfathomable amount of alcohol-free beer to feel even slightly tipsy. Some German students even did a test (that’s our kinda experiment) to see what their blood alcohol contant would be after drinking 0.4% ABV beer for an hour. The results were not much. So if you’re the designated driver, don’t worry – it’s practically impossible for an adult to get drunk on alcohol-free beer.

We think alcohol-free beers taste just as good as the regular IPA beer! Plus, our alcohol-free and low-alcohol beers have some irresistible crisp, fruity flavours along with that zap of hoppy bitterness we all know and love in a good IPA. We're not saying it tastes EXACTLY the same as a regular beer - you probably will notice a difference - but when you fancy a booze-free drink at home or down the pub, our alcohol-free beers will be there to support and cherish you.

Look, we get it. Sometimes, when you go to the pub with your mates after work, you want to enjoy that iconic, bitter, alcoholic flavour and let the day's stresses wash over you. But it's not for everyone. Enter low-alcohol beer!

Beers with low or no alcohol are perfect for earthlings who like the flavour but still want to be part of the gang and have a good night out. There are actually loads of reasons why someone might choose the lower-alcohol option. They might be the designated spaceship driver, for example. Or they might be on a health kick and need to cut back on alcohol for medical purposes. People of different religions may also have different views on drinking alcohol and choose not to drink it.

Whatever the reasons, the most important thing is not to judge someone on their decision. Low-alcohol beer is awesome! (And Beavertown's low and no alcohol-free beers are the best...we all know it's true...stop trying to deny it.)

It shouldn't be a surprise to learn that low-alcohol beer can be better for you than regular beer. Usually low and no alcohol beer contains far fewer calories than their alcoholic counterparts as less sugar has been involved in the brewing process. We're not saying they're an ultra-healthy drink option, so don't go replacing your water intake with alcohol-free beer just yet.
