Hazy IPA FAQs

We're crazy for hazy beer. They're just a more modern version of American-style IPAs. Or APAs. Honestly, there are so many acronyms it's hard even for us, self-proclaimed beer experts, to keep up! All you really need to know is that their juicy, hoppy, fruity flavours are like an explosion of deliciousness in your mouth. They're also known for being less bitter than regular IPA beer - probably because they're younger and have a brighter outlook on life. Hazy pale ale can usually be identified by its hazy/cloudy appearance (obviously) and its tropical aroma. Our mouths are watering just thinking about it!

Cloudy beer can sometimes be a teeny, tiny bit stronger than a lager. Where an average lager has a 4.5% ABV, a hazy IPA usually ranges between 4.5% - 6.5% ABV. Not tooooo different, but still, always drink them responsibly. And, compared to other pale ales, which sit around 5.0% - 7.5%, they're pretty much the same. If you're feeling bold, go for a double hazy IPA, like our Solar Flare, which packs a tropical punch and has an 8.0% ABV.

Magic. And a little bit of space dust.

Sadly, that's not actually true. But imagine how cool it would be to drink space dust?! The boring reality, though, is that hazy IPAs are brewed with more oats and wheat than a regular pale ale, giving them a higher protein content and a natural haze. The beer can then be made to look even cloudier by adding more hops during peak fermentation.

Not to make things even more complicated, but since we've covered hazy IPAs and pale ale, it's only right that dark IPAs get a mention, too! Dark beer is brewed with even darker malts for a super intense colour and flavour. If you want to learn more about the differences, check out our ultimate what is dark beer guide.

Oh, it's like choosing a favourite mate! We've got a bunch of amazing, hazy beers, like our juicy, easy-drinking Lunar Haze, our cosmically great strawberry and mango-flavoured Heavy Gravity OR our sweet Super Moon. You're just going to have to try them all with our hazy pale ale mixed case!
